Hutchinson Case Study

Hutchinson-Pool-2

Adept Integrated Systems, 18th January 2011

This superb installation has been received with universal industry praise for both its technical merit and the attention to detail that offers the client a unique user experience to this 14,000sq ft architect designed home.

The project was started for the client in December 2008 and has evolved into the wondrous installation that you see in the images attached.

The brief from the client was clear from the start; a simple to use system, which featured completely, integrated technologies for all of the homes electronics.

The client wanted one point of accountability for all electrical and mechanical systems so Adept Integrated Systems took control of the Lighting Design and Electrical and Mechanical Design of the installation also.

Integrated technologies featured were Lighting Control, Home Automation, Multi Room Audio and Video, Integrated Security, CCTV and Access Control as well as Telephony.

Industry leading products featured were Lighting Control from Lutron Electronics, Home Automation and Control from Control4 and Future Automation, Multi Room Audio and Video from Rotel, Russound and Control4, Security, CCTV and Access Control from DSC, Eneo, and Videx and Telephony from Elmeg. All industry renowned brands know for reliability and quality.

The whole house was controlled using Control4 with in wall Touch Screens and a combination of iPad and iTouch controllers from Apple offering lighting fast access to all services, and allowing the user to open the gates, view the cameras, select stored movies and music as well as control lighting and security.

Working with the architects drawings in AutoCAD Adept designed detailed drawings and schematics for all systems allowing contractors to implement their individual aspects without complication and confusion. The careful planning and outstanding communications throughout the design and build process allowed for a smooth transition from design to realization.

As the build progressed the client requested several additional features including a business class telephone system which offers Direct Dial numbers for each user as well as individual Voice Mail Accounts and customized Music on Hold and Automated Attendant features.

Nearing completion a customized rotating pole bracket was featured to the Sun Room, which allowed the client to watch TV in the Sunroom, or to spin the screen 180 degrees to view from the Kitchen prep area. Careful programming was also detailed which meant at the push of a button the Sun Room and Kitchen/Dining area became a linked zone synchronizing the two TV screens, whilst rotating the Sun Room screen into the Kitchen, and audio volume levels etc. This was a unique customized product that was designed specifically for this area and again was installed without delay and complication.

The systems can also be accessed remotely to enable and disable services should the client forget, for example, to activate the holiday setting for the lighting control system, which simulates occupancy by playing back pre recorded lighting scenes., this can be turned on via the web interface.

Using a centralized control system also enhances the individual systems by integration; for example, the lighting and security can be glued together. This way when the alarm is triggered we can also tell the driveway lights to flash on and off which raises awareness to the property offering additional security. Whilst this is happening a sequence of lighting events starts within the house simulating the lighting actions that would occur if the owner was getting up and coming down the stairs, which could potentially scare any possible intruder away.

When asked what was special about the install Matthew Cupper of Adept Integrated Systems stated “We try and treat all of our installations with the same level of technical skills, care, attention to detail, as well as offering innovative advise and customer service second to none, however with this particular project the clients vision was perfectly clear and with their open mind supported with our visual representations it made for a pleasurable experience for all parties involved. The feedback we have from our client is that we have surpassed their every expectation”

Look out for this installation in the CEDIA Awards 2011.
